So I happened to stumble on the place. I was actually looking for A place to turn around. But I saw the window that said Ethiopian food and I decided to give it a try. At first it was quite difficult to figure out what to order. The menu didn't have any pictures. As I read the menu, I couldn't get a feel for the different flavors from reading the English descriptions. But I know each dish had to be different because the Ethiopian name for each dish was different.

I ordered the lamb with something called injera. I couldn't understand the waitress very well and she offered me a rice or Injera to go with my lamb. I didn't know what N Jerrell was so I started off with rice. But then I figured, if I'm going to try something different I might as well eat what Ethiopians eat. So I change my order and asked for Injera with my lamb.

The lamp came on a huge plate. Underneath the lamb was a soft, spongy, pancake like bread. Next to the plate was a rolled up pancake as well. The lamb was stewed with tomatoes and onion. In the corner of the plate was a peppery sauce that I think you dip your food in. The peppery sauce had a kind of earthy peppery taste that tasted pretty good.

I noticed that there were no utensils that came with the food and I had a feeling that was the purpose of the rolled up pancake next to my meal. So I quickly googled "how to use Injera" so that I can watch a YouTube video and learn. You basically tear off smaller pieces of the bread and pick up the food on the plate with your fingers, careful to keep your fingers clean. This was my first time eating like this so I think the other patrons in the restaurant who knew what they were eating and seemed to know when to use utensils and went to use their fingers thought it was odd that I was videotaping myself using the Injera as my eating utensil this was my first time eating like this so I think the other patrons in the restaurant Must have thought it was odd for me to be videotaping myself using in injera.

I think the waitress was quite surprised that I knew how to use the Injera. I Astor how I did and she said with a big smile that I was an expert. I was no expert and I'm sure everyone was looking at me with the word "tourist" flashing through their heads

The meal was quite feeling and the cubes of lamb were very soft and delicious. I really liked dipping my food into the peppery sauce that was different from what I am used to.

All in all, it was worth $16 and I left the place feeling a lot fatter and content.

My favorite Ethiopian sports bar! OK no, I didn't know that was a thing either. But what's a tibs platter without hi def futbol on the wide screen? For that matter, what the heck is tibs?

I still don't know, cuz I ordered the veggie platter, which was excellent. A wide variety of interestingly spiced stews and dishes, served with fresh and spongy injera - for the uninitiated that is the bread which is your only utensil. Grab a couple napkins, although I'm pretty sure it's OK to lick your fingers in an Ethiopian sports bar, just like if you were eating wings at Glory Days, right? My daughters disagree, but c'mon, don't be wasting that tasty sauce.

This meal was every bit as good as the surprisingly delicious one we were served on Ethiopian Airlines last summer. But this is cheaper and easier to get to. Four stars because the decor and service are meh, but the food and experience well worth it. And it's true about the parking - if you're going on a weekend park in the neighborhood off Seminary road.

Eyo is a hidden gem in NoVA among the many bright spots for Ethiopian food. We always order vegetarian platter with teff injera. The Eyo team provides a spicy, fresh take on all the classics, often substituting different dishes from month to month, so the dining experience is just a little new each time.  Highly recommend!  Note: parking is very tough in this outdoor mall on Friday and Saturday evenings; consider a different evening or parking nearby and walking over.

I am Ethiopian and Eyo is by far the best authentic Ethiopian restaurant in Alexandria area. I am a regular at Eyo and this place had never disappointed me. Both veggie and non veggie dishes are authentic and full of delicious spicy and authentic flavor. The tasty dishes always takes me back home and I Love it . I have and will continue to recommend this place to others!

I have had good experience in the past here but today was awful. We ordered 'dry' tibs '  with eggs. We received quanta tibs which were severely over-cooked to the point where you could not chew it. When we told the waitress what we ordered and that we would not eat it, she said, "I have been serving dry tibs like that for 10 years and the dry tibs and quanta were the same thing." She had a horrible attitude and we will not be visiting again. Shameful service.
